Después de unas cuantas entradas demasiado filosóficas y sesudas, va siendo hora de darnos un gustazo. Igual que existen películas cuyo argumento es precisamente las películas (La noche americana, de Truffaut; Cautivos del mal, de Vincente Minnelli; El crepúsculo de los dioses, de Billy Wilder; Ed Wood, de Tim Burton, y mil más...) también hay canciones que hablan de la música, posiblemente en un número incluso mayor. Casi ningún artista se ha privado de componer una canción cuyo argumento sea precisamente la autoreferecia: desde los Rolling Stones, elevando un estilo musical a la categoría de icono (It's Only Rock'n'Roll, But I like It), hasta la inefable Madonna, alardeando de títulos originales (Music).
After a few posts with some sort of "philosphical" approach, I think it's high time we just indulged ourselves once in a while. As well as there are films about films (Truffaut's Day For Night, Minnelli's The Bad and The Beautiful, Wilder's Sunset Boulevard, Tim Burton's Ed Wood, and thousands more...) there's also music about music, and even in a bigger amount than films. Nearly all artists have fallen back on such an exercise of self-reference: from the Rolling Stones, with their iconic It's Only Rock'n'Roll (But I Like It), to the ineffable Madonna, showing a great sense of originality in song-naming (Music).

The Apples in Stereo muestran su repertorio de voces y vocoders al más puro estilo Electric Light Orchestra en todo el álbum (escúchese Energy, Same Old Drag ó 7 Stars) y Can You Feel It? no es más que la tarjeta de presentación de un surtido de grandes canciones con las que disfrutar de esa cosa tan simple llamada música desde el minuto cero.The Apples in Stereo show their repertoire of vocals and vocoders following the Electric Light Orchestra's style in their album (listen to Energy, Same Old Drag or 7 Stars), and Can You Feel It? is nothing but a smart opening to an assortment of great songs with which everyone can enjoy that simple little thing called music from the word go.

Can You Feel It? no será la mejor canción que use este metalenguaje, pero no es una de tantas, así, del montón. El lider de The Apples In Stereo, Robert Schneider, nos transmite con cuatro frases mucha más emoción y pasión por la música que muchos otros intentos pretenciosos y almibarados (léase ABBA, Thank You For The Music, por poner un ejemplo más o menos indigesto). No se trata de la primera vez que alguien encumbra el sublime gesto de subir el volumen (M.A.R.R.S. lo hizo antes, pero de forma machacona y fría, en Pump Up The Volume), pero sí de las pocas canciones en las que música, letra y emoción se juntan, de forma simple pero contundente, en un tema en el que no tengo que pensar en nada más que en cantar y bailar... eso sí, ¡a todo volumen!Can You Feel It? might not be the best song using this metalanguage, but it isn't just another song either. Robert Schneider, the lead singer of The Apples in Stereo, shows far more emotion and passion for music with a few words than many others who have tried to do the same only to result in a pretentious and cheesy piece of s**t (ABBA's Thank You For The Music). It's not the first time someone reminds us of the sublime gesture of turning up the volume (M.A.R.R.S. did, though in a very cold and repetitive way in Pump Up The Volume), but it is certainly one of the few songs in which music, lyrics and emotion match so simply and convincingly in such a way that I don't need to think of anything except dancing and singing along...  at full blast!
