Organizations from seven countries are preparing for the 8th Pan-Amazonian Forum and all interested parties from all over the world are invited. Over a thousand representatives from Amazonian communities in Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Peru and Venezuela will discuss the issues and alternatives to development in this region.

To protect the Amazon and analyze the issues affecting this important continental territory, from 28 April to 1 May the 8th Pan-Amazonian Social Forum (FOSPA) will be held, this year in the Peruvian city of Tarapoto.

According to the coordination of the institutions organizing the event that will bring together over one thousand indigenous Amazonian leaders, this forum will enjoy the presence of representatives from Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Peru and Venezuela, as these are the countries that share the Amazon territory.

Ismael Vega, a representative of the organization of the 8 th FOSPA, said that for this year it is expected that the forum will focus on working on the issue of Territory and Asset Care. "We have a central theme, and around that all the forum participants will discuss and analyze the issue of the Amazon from different perspectives, such as climate change, women, megaprojects, and other aspects. We want everyone to participate in the different roundtables, to then go on to the plenary meeting and come to a synthesis of all the debates."

Vega explained that this forum is the first to be held on Peruvian territory, and that from May 2015 to the present eleven national pre-forums have been held in six of the countries that make up the Amazon, in order to establish the agenda to be followed and debated at the event.

EXPERT MEETING

Prior to the 8 th FOSPA, on 26 and 27 April, a forum will be held where experts and researchers from the Amazon will participate in various workshops to exchange data and share their studies on issues such as environmental impact, mining, logging and deforestation, water conservation, among others, of which there will also be a summary to be presented at the final plenary meeting.
