Luxemburgo, Capital del Gran Ducado

Luxemburgo, Luxembourg en francés, Luxemburg en alemán, Lëtzebuerg en luxemburgués es una pintoresca ciudad situada sobre un promontorio desde el que se pueden observar los inmensos valles que se extienden a su alrededor. Sede de numerosas instituciones europeas como la Corte Suprema de Justicia, el Secretariado General del Parlamento Europeo, el Tribunal de Cuentas y el Banco Europeo de Inversiones, es además sede episcopal y depende directamente de la Santa Sede.

Dada su posición, fue fortificada en el siglo X todavía hoy el centro histórico aparece ceñido por fosos y murallas.

 

Este viaje ha sido raro a la vez que divertido. Surgió 3 días antes, en Lille, cuando una chica italiana me comentó que visitaría Luxemburgo con unos amigos y un compañero de clase luxemburgués. Con las ganas que tenia de conocer la ciudad, no me lo pensé dos veces y me uní al plan. Total, que el día de ayer lo pasé entre italianos hablando su lengua natal, mientras practicaban su perfecto francés con el chico de Luxemburgo, a la vez que me traducían y hablaban a mí en inglés, cuando a veces alguno chapurreaba algo de español. ¡Sensacional!. La verdad que para no conocerles de antes se han portado genial conmigo, haciendo un esfuerzo grande por hablar la mayor parte del tiempo en inglés.

Nuestro viaje comenzaba a las 8.30am en la Gare Centraal de Bruselas. Al igual que si decides visitar Maastricht (Holanda), aconsejo viajar con el billete GO PASS hasta la frontera belga y luego pagar el billete estándar. En nuestro caso marcar en el GO PASS Brussels-Arlon y luego comprar el billete Arlon-Luxemburgo (6,50€ con descuento estudiante / 10,00€ precio estándar).Aconsejo comprar el billete Arlon-Luxemburgo en Bruselas ya que dentro el tren cobran un suplemento. Además el tren que se coge en Bruselas va directo a Luxemburgo, sin parar para dar tiempo a comprar el otro billete en Arlon

El viaje dura aproximadamente 3 horas. Creo que el tren sale de Bruxelles-Midi y hace paradas en Bruxelles Central, Bruxelles Nord, Bruxelles Schuman y Bruxelless-Luxembourg. Más adelante para en la estación de Namur, a partir de la cual las vistas empiezan a ser preciosas. Sobre todo en pleno diciembre que estaba todo nevado. Y después llegan Libramont y Arlon, últimas paradas dentro de Bélgica. Veinte minutos después de Arlon llegamos finalmente a Luxemburgo.

El tren nos deja en la Gare Centrale Luxembourg a eso de las 12.00h. Giramos a la derecha y tomamos la Av. De la Gare. Cruzamos el Puente Adolphe con unas preciosas vistas sobre el VALLÉE DE LA PÉTRUSSE y continuamos por Boulevard F.F. Roosevelt para llegar a la PLACE DE LA CONSTITUTION, presidida por el MEMORIAL GËLLE FRA.

También llamado monument du Souvenir, está dedicado a los miles de luxemburgueses caidos que se ofrecieron voluntariamente para servir en las fuerzas armadas de las potencias aliadas durante la Primera Guerra Mundial.

En esta plaza está instalado por estos días parte del MERCADO DE NAVIDAD, que está distribuido por diferentes plazas de la ciudad. Aquí se encuentra también la entrada a las CASAMATAS DE LA PÉTRUSSE.

Casamatas de la Pétrusse son unos misteriosos pasadizos subterráneos que fueron erigidos en el siglo XVII por los españoles con fines defensivos. La visita a estos túneles tiene una duración aproximada de 45 minutos

Desde aquí decidimos acercarnos un poco más a la CATEDRAL DE NOTRE DAME (www.cathedrale.lu), construida en estilo barroco, aunque tiene un pórtico renacentista y elementos góticos en las torres. Así pudimos verla desde el frente y entrar. Me llamó mucho la atención la decoración de las columnas interiores, así como el maravilloso órgano y las vidrieras.

Desde aquí giramos un poco a la derecha para visitar la PLACE CLAIREFONTAINE. Toda la zona antigua de la ciudad de Luxemburgo es Patrimonio de la UNESCO.

Salimos de la plaza de nuevo, para seguir uso metros y girar a la izquierda por Rue du Marché aux Herbes y ver la CHAMBRES DES DEPUTÉS y el PALAIS GRAN-DUCAL. El palacio de los Grandes Duques fue reconstruido sobre las ruinas del antiguo Ayuntamiento.

Seguido giramos otra vez a la izquierda para acceder a la PLACE GUILLAUME, adornada con una estatua ecuestre de Guillermo II, rey de Holanda y gran duque de Luxemburgo. Además aqui encontramos el HÔTEL DE VILLE, de estilo neoclásico y Oficina De Información Turística. En este último lugar es donde conseguí un mapa con la zona más turística gratis.

Desde aquí visitamos un poquito más arriba PLACE D’ARMES, presidida por CERCLE MUNICIPAL y donde encontramos la mayor parte del Mercado de Navidad. Aquí lo pasamos genial. Músicos callejeros, muchos puestos de comida típica, gente de todas clases. Se respiraba ambiente navideño. Aquí paramos a comer. Primero una fondue en la caseta suiza, después una Salchicha blanca típica GRILLWURSCHT (3,00€) con un pan de baguette, nada de pan de bollo. Y después unas galletas de PATATA, que no de manzana como pensaba yo (3 piezas 3,80€). Y es que en francés manzana se dice pomme y patata es pomme de terre. Eran unas galletas raras, con patatas, cebolla y especies. Debe de ser de los pocos platos típicos propios que tienen en Luxemburgo, ya que el resto son tomados de las regiones o países vecinos.

Una vez repuesto fuerzas y llenos de energía, subimos por la calle de tiendas Neuve Rue Philippe. Por aquí alrededor decidimos para a tomar un café calentito, ya que a pesar de haber entrado en calor teníamos los pies helados.

Después de ese respiro, nos dispusimos  a recorrer los restos de la antigua fortificación. Bajamos por Bd. J. Ulverling, donde disfrutamos de unas fantásticas vistas de la parte vieja. Encontramos la TORRETAS ESPAÑOLA y las TRES TORRES, para llegar a la roca llamada GOETHE STONE, donde encontramosel PONT DU CHÂTEAU, que llega al BOCK.

Bock es un espolón rocoso cortado a pico sobre el río Alzette, con una bellísima vista sobre el río y la parte baja de la ciudad. Aquí estuvo entre el año 963 y 1556 el castillo de los condes y los duques de Luxemburgo, del que no quedan mas que algunos restos.

Una vez llegamos a este punto, decidimos bajar hacia él y pasar por debajo, y en lugar de seguir la ruta a la derecha tomamos un pequeño sendero por la izquierda, junto las fortificaciones españolas. Así llegamos a la MURALLA WENCESLAO. Caminamos entre el pequeño rio Alzette y CHEMIN DE LA CORNICHE, uno de los balcones más bellos de Europa. Dejamos a nuestra izquierda la IGLESIA ST-JEAN-DU-GRUND y MUSEO NACIONAL DE HISTORIA NATURAL (www.mnhn.lu).

Continuamos de frente por Rue St. Ulric y subimos por Montée de la Pétrusse. Una vez arriba, callejeamos para llegar a la Place de Paris. Cerca, en Avenue de la Liberté tomamos el autobús nº1 dirección Luxexpo para ver el TRIBUNAL DE JUSTICIA DE LA UE y la PHILARMONIE LUXEMBOURG (www.philharmonie.lu).

Una vez visitado esto, tomamos el mismo autobús de vuelta a la Gare Centrale y el tren destino a Bruselas de las 17.00h.
