Perséfone / Persephone / Proserpina

El mito de Perséfone (Proserpina para los romanos) es uno de los que más me gustan de la mitología griega, por su riqueza y por la variedad de sentidos y explicaciones que se le pueden dar… no es raro que haya servido de inspiración a gran cantidad de obras… Si queréis conocer el mito en detalle, podéis visitar la fantástica web de Aquileana, que es lo mejorcito que hay sobre mitología griega (eso sí, en inglés):

En cuanto al cuadro, me gustó la imagen original porque se divide en diagonal, con la luz y la sombra separadas por la línea que forman la granada y la flor (hala, a buscar significados y relaciones con otras historias). Y el gesto de Perséfone es algo más desafiante de lo habitual, parece que tampoco le importaba demasiado quedarse en el inframundo a pasar unas vacaciones.

As for the painting, I liked the original image because itdefined two areas very clearly, a dark one and another one in light, separated by the line of the grenade and the flower (and you can look for your own meanings and connections to other stories). Besides, Persephone’s pose is a bit more defiant than usual, it seems she doesn’t mind spending a little vacation in the Underworld.
