Realmente disfruto escribiendo, y de paso leyendo, libros sobre el destino, el azar y personas que conectan de maneras inesperadas, pero sobre todo historias con mucho corazón. Hi Ms. Smith. Thanks so much for taking a little bit of your time to answer the questions for this interview and also thanks for be part of our blog-anniversary celebration! Spanish readers were able to enjoy The Statistical Probability of Love at first sight last year and most of them loved it. Can you tell us who is Jennifer E. Smith? What does she like? What does she write? Thanks for having me! I really enjoy writing – and, for that matter, reading – books about fate and chance and people connecting in unexpected ways, and mostly, stories with a lot of heart. Sabemos que habías escrito algunos otros libros antes de La probabilidad estadística del amor a primera vista. ¿Que podemos encontrar en ellos? ¿Son de alguna manera similares a La probabilidad estadística del amor a primera vista? Si, creo que son similares de muchas maneras. El primero, The comeback Season, es la historia de amor entre dos adolescentes que comparten una pasión por un equipo de béisbol, the Chicago Clubs, y el segundo, You are here, es sobre dos adolescentes que de una manera inesperada roban y se van en un viaje de carretera. Pero creo que aquellos que disfrutaron de La probabilidad estadística del amor a primera vista probablemente estarán más interesados en mi nuevo libro This Is What Happy Looks Like.  We know you had written some other books before The statistical probability of love at first sight. What can we find in those ones? Are they somehow similar to The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight? Yes, I think they’re similar in a lot of ways. The first one, The Comeback Season, is a love story between two teens who share a love of a baseball team, the Chicago Cubs, and the second, You Are Here, is about two teens who sort of unexpectedly steal a car and take off on a road trip. But I think those who enjoyed Statistical Probability will probably be most interested in my new book, This Is What Happy Looks Like. ¿Cómo surgió la idea para La probabilidad estadística del amor a primera vista?Una vez pase todo un vuelo hablando con un anciano caballero y cuando aterrizamos nos separamos antes de que pudiésemos decir adios. No hubo nada romántico en ello, pero pense que seria una manera interesante de comenzar una historia de amor. How did the idea for The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight come up?I once spent an entire plane ride talking to an older gentleman, and when we landed, we were separated at customs before we had a chance to say goodbye. There was nothing romantic about it, but I started to think it might be an interesting way to start a love story… ¿Qué le dirías a las personas que no han leído este libro para animarlos a hacerlo? Es una historia de amor entre dos adolescentes que se conocen en un vuelo desde Nueva York hasta Londres y se desarrolla en 24 horas. ¿Como puede no gustar? What would you tell to people who haven't read this book to encourage them to do it?It’s a love story about two teens who meet on a flight from New York to London, and it takes place in 24 hours. What’s not to like? Antes mencionaste tu nuevo libro, This Is What Happy Looks Like, el cual saldrá a la venta en unos días. ¿Puedes decirnos un poco más sobre el? ¿De que trata?

Este libro trata sobre lo que sucede cuando un e-mail se desvía, conectando a dos adolescente muy diferentes desde extremos opuestos del país, Ellie, una chica de un pequeño pueblo de Maine y Grahama, un chico de California que resulta ser una estrella de cine. Suena mucho como una comedia romántica. You mentioned before you new book, This Is What Happy Looks Like, which is coming out in a few days.Can you tell us a little bit more about it? What it is about? This one is about what happens when an email goes astray, connecting two very different teens from opposite ends of the country – Ellie, a girl from a small town in Maine, and Graham, a boy from California who happens to be a movie star. It reads very much like a romantic comedy. ¿Hay noticias de que este libro se vaya a publicar en España?Si, Santillana también publicará este libro, aunque no estoy segura de la fecha exacta. Are there any news about this new book coming out in Spain? Yes, Santillana will publish this book as well, though I’m not quite sure of the exact date… ¿Qué tan difícil es escribir libro para adolescentes?¿Cuales son los desafíos? Realmente me encanta escribir para esta audiencia. Creo que el desafío es que los adolescentes a menudo son más críticos de alguna manera; conozco a muchos adultos que terminarian un libro solo porque lo comenzaron, pero los adolescentes tienden más a dejar de leer un libro porque es aburrido asi que tienes que conseguir que cada pagina cuente. Pero no hay un grupo de lectores mejores o más entusiastas ahí afuera. How hard it is to write books for young adults readers? Which are the challenges? I really love writing for this audience. I think the challenge is just that teens are often more critical, in a way; I know a lot of adults who will finish a book just because they started it, but teens are much more likely to put something down if it’s boring, so you have to make every page count. But there’s no better or more enthusiastic group of readers out there. Si tuvieras que presentarle uno de tus personajes a cualquier otro personaje de uno de tus libros favoritos, ¿cuál sería y por qué? ¡Que pregunta tan estupenda! Creo que sería divertido ver a Oliver o Hadley conocer a Graham de This Is What Happy Looks Like, solo para ver como reaccionarian a una estrella de cine... If you had to introduce any of your character to any other of the characters from your favorite books which would it be and why? What a great question! I think it would be fun to see Oliver or Hadley meet Graham from This Is What Happy Looks Like, just to see how they’d react to a movie star too… ¿Cuáles eran tus libros favoritos cuando eras niña? ¿Cómo han cambiado tu gustos con el tiempo? De niña leía todo lo que pillara, pero algunos de mis libros favoritos eran, y aún lo son, los clásicos como La casa de la pradera, La leyenda del helecho rojo, Un puente hacia Terabithia, Mujercitas, Tuck Everlasting, Peter Pan. Ahora, por supuesto, también disfruto algunos clásicos modernos como Harry Potter. ¡Nunca tengo suficiente de Harry Potter! Which were your favorite books or authors when you were a child? How have they changed over the time? I read everything I could get my hands on as a kid, but some of my favorites were – and still are – the classics like Little House on the Prairie, Where the Red Fern Grows, Bridge to Terabithia, Little Women, Tuck Everlasting, Peter Pan. Now, of course, I also love some of the more modern classics, like Harry Potter. I can never get enough Harry Potter! ¿Hay algo mas que te gustaría decirle a los lectores españoles? ¡Gracias! Aprecio tanto a todos los fans de España que han llegado hasta mi.
