My First Communion – Brianna

Hace varios meses que me había reunido con esta familia, y desde el primer momento en que planteamos este proyecto sabía que iba a salir algo especial. Tengo que reconocer que  el reportaje de primera comunión no es la especialidad fotográfica desde un punto de vista creativo que mas me atraiga, pero cuando tomas un café y hablas de Brianna con sus padres, todo cambia.

El objetivo por lo que me localizaron sus padres era intentar realizar una sesión de primera comunión fuera de lo habitual y tradicional, en este caso se querían algo creativo y distinto, una sesión que siempre pudieran recordar.

Brianna es una pequeña con un don especial, desde muy pequeñita es una enamorada del baile, paciencia, trabajo  y muchas horas de sacrificio han podido hacer a esta pequeña en una figura de la danza moderna, tiene multitud de premios, incluyendo algún campeonato a nivel mundial, pero sobre todo tiene algo que no se hace, sólo se nace,  alma cuando baila. Con esta verdadera bomba delante de la cámara, no podía dejar la oportunidad de hacer una sesión  que me emocionó hasta el punto de tener que interrumpirla en dos ocasiones por un momento, me parecía increíble e impensable que una pequeña de ocho años me pudiera emocionar de esa forma.

Realizamos la sesión en tres escenarios diferentes, empezamos por los clásicos jardines de la Alameda de Gibraltar, un lugar muy utilizado para las sesiones fotográficas, donde nos reimos mucho tanto con Brianna como con Channel, la pequeña de la familia, aquí quisimos darle un toque de tuerca e intentar hacer algo fuera de lo corriente. Pero donde yo sabía que iba a darlo todo era en su hábitat natural, el escenario; así que nos desplazamos al John Mackintosh Hall donde teníamos reservado el teatro para un par de horas. Fue una gozada estar allí para verla bailar, es fantástica, puro feeling. Quisimos rematar la sesión visitando su academia de danza, dirigida por su profesora Anne Marie Gomez, la cual nos dejo las instalaciones gustosamente para poder sacar las últimas fotos de esta sesión.

Quiero agradecer enormemente a Zoe y Benjamin por su confianza en mí, y sobre todo por darme la oportunidad de conocer y poder realizar esta sesión tan especial con sus dos tesoros, Brianna y Channel.

Several months ago I met with this family, and from the first moment I knew that this project was going to be something special. I have to admit that First Communion sessions are not, from a creative point of view, the photographic specialty that most attracts me, but when you have a coffee and talk about Brianna with her parents, everything changes.

The target of her parents was to make a First Communion photo shoot out of the ordinary, not a traditional session; they wanted something creative and different, a session that they could always remember.

Brianna is a little girl with a special gift. Since very little she is in love with dancing… and patience, hard work and many hours of sacrifice, have made this beautiful girl a figure of modern dance. She has numerous awards, including some International Championship, but above all she has something that you cannot learn, something that you can only born with: she has soul when he dances.

With this bomb in front of the camera, I could not pass up the opportunity to make a session which touched me to the point of having to interrupt it for a moment in two occasions. It seemed unbelievable that a small eight year old girl could move me that way.

We did the shooting in three different settings, starting with the classic gardens of the Alameda of Gibraltar, a place oftentimes used for photo sessions and where we wanted to do something out of the ordinary.  There we laugh very much with Brianna and Channel, the little one of the family. But I knew that where she was going to give everything was in her natural habitat: the stage; so we moved to the John Mackintosh Hall, where we had booked the theatre for a couple of hours. It was a blast to be there and see her dance. She is just fantastic, pure feeling.

We wanted to top off the session visiting her Dance Academy, directed by her teacher Anne Marie Gomez, who gave us all the facilities to get the latest photos from this session.

I want to heartily thank Zoe and Benjamin for trusting in me, and especially for giving me the opportunity to meet their two treasures, Brianna and Channel, and make this very special session with them.
